The most valuable of all spiritual virtues apart from salvation is sanctification because it secures access to your inheritance, grants you access in prayer and guarantees access to the secrets of God.
Sanctification is a virtue of inestimable value but it carries a cost.
Demands for Living a Sanctified Life
1. We must engage in self-purging by engaging in self-examination.
2 Timothy 2:19: “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
You can’t engage in self-purging without engaging in self-examination.
2. Mortify the deeds of the flesh.
Romans 8:13: “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
You pray in the Holy Ghost to mortify the works of the flesh in your life.
3. Engage the power of testimony for your required change of story.
Matthew 9:22: “But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.”
Matthew 14:36: “And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.”
4. Without faith, it is impossible to live a sanctified life.
1 Samuel 2:9: “He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.”
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
It takes faith in God to live a life that pleases Him.
Costs of Ungodliness
1. It blocks access to God’s presence.
Hebrews 12:14: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”
Psalms 5:12, 101:7: “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.”
“He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.”
Genesis 41:40: “Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.”
2. It blocks access to divine favour.
Proverbs 13:15: “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.”
1 John 3:7: “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.”
Embrace the law of Christ; it’s the most needed law for living.
There is no lawless zone in life; you can only find this in the grave. There is a law of the Spirit of life that sets you free from the law of the spirit of death.
Benefits of Sanctification
1. It secures supernatural rescue when under attack.
Psalms 34:7, 19: “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
2. It engenders peace and serenity.
Isaiah 32:17 – 18: And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
3. It engenders access to divine secrets that make stars in the Kingdom.
Daniel 1:8; 2:19; 6:4: “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
“Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.”
“Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.”
4. It secures supernatural supplies.
Psalms 37:18 – 19, 25:
The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
“I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
5. It procures supernatural blessings.
Psalms 112:1 – 3:
Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Proverbs 7:20, 22: “He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.”
“He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;”
6. It secures eternity with God.
1 Corinthians 15:19: “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”
Colossians 3:5: “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
